i got offered a job today while working on the boardwalk. i was damn honoured actually because this time around, it's a job at hollister. hehehehe. this hollister representative was scouting the beach and she came up to me and said that they have a few openings at their store two towns away. she thought i had a "great look", but too bad it's still pretty far away considering i don't drive. oh wellllll. i could've gotten discounts at the store even if i worked one day in a week.
i'm off to washington dc now. will be gone wed-thurs. will update again!

it's Memorial Day Eve! it's a public holiday in the US, a day to remember the soldiers of some war. but anyway, the beach is PACKED with people and now it's getting warm. i don't even have to go out with my jackets anymore. it's nice to see the beach nice and crowded and one thing i really like is how they have private jets flying huge banners across the sky as advertisements! and every now and then you see people parasailing across the Atlantic ocean. :) hopefully i'll get to do that before i leave NJ. but now i've got to sleep, because i've been working 14 hour days yesterday and today!
haven't really talked much about my job. it's really like those arcades in singapore, where you have those people at the counter counting tokens and tickets and changing bills. but i'm doing more of those outdoor games, where you talk into the microphone and con people to come and play games that are an absolute ripoff. but it's fun because i've met some pretty nice people. my managers are nice and i've got this bulgarian girl working in my stand and we get along really well so that's nice.
PICTURES!
Click here. I'll constantly be updating it so yep, keep checking!

so i fell sick again and i had to visit a doctor this time around. the clinic is cool in that it is in a house, and the doctor had a huge dog in her office. it was startling at first but the dog's tame. the shitty part of it was that they didn't take cards, so they told us to go to the ATM at 7-11 just "across the street". only when we started walking and asked a passerby did we realise that the 7-11 was 4 miles away. So our HR manager came down gave us a lift to withdraw money. The total bill for the consultation (with insurance) was US$50 and medication cost a friggin US$119. And the worse part was it took me almost 6 hours to do all that. They're the most inefficient bunch of people i've ever met!
whatever. on a happy note, the whole bunch of us went to woodbury outlets early this week. they had everything! guess, quiksilver, bcbg, fcuk to high end boutiques like gucci fendi what not. and so, i'm officially in the red right now and i've yet to plan for my trip the washington dc next week. oh boy.

i'm back from the niagara falls! it was awesome, but so freaking cold coz we took a boat right to the bottom of the horseshoe falls and it was raining too. we spent a night in NYC coz we had to take a bus from chinatown early in the morning. we stayed at a budget hotel but we didn't realise it was at harlem. harlem is where a lot of african-americans live so i didn't take any pictures there coz i was so afraid somebody would whip out a gun and shoot me.
the journey to the falls was really long but along the way we saw the countryside and it was really pretty! lots of stone walls, talus and screes, just like in geography books. a lot of farmland and i saw white-black cows just like those in milk commercials! the guide was really funny because she's from china (the trip was obviously catered to the chinese) so she spoke terrible english. half the time we were sniggering when she spoke (niagara falls became nainaiga falls; bridal veil became brida view, good morning how did you sleep last night became gud moning how are you sleeping last night), it was hilarious!
the hotel we were at was really close to the falls and we could see the rapids from just outside our hotel window. the falls were magnificent upclose! i took so many pictures kelvin's camera was almost soaked. will post the url for the shutterfly page soon!

today's the second day i'm not working because it's been raining. the temperature's down to a freaking 48degF. it was this cold on sunday when i worked, and i think that's why i'm ill again. fever, stuffed nose, cough. boooo. don't know why i keep falling ill here. it's the second time in three weeks.
so yesterday i had a day off. what did we do? we went to open our bank accounts so now i've got a bank of america visa. thank goodness for that. i can finally stop charging to my UOB visa. we went kite flying and disc throwing for a while. the wind's so strong over here we didn't have to run like crazy (like how we would have to at marina south) before the kite was up and away. :)
i'll be going to new york again today. and tomorrow i'm off to see the niagra falls! woohoo!

monday: new york city again! this time we went to madam tussaud's, the wax museum! some of the wax figures were so realistic! oh and i did a little bit of shopping. we went by 34th street, 5th avenue and soho. they're not exactly cheap though.
tues - wednesday: a few of us were supposed to work today but the weather was bad so the arcade didn't need us. so what did we do? we planned a last minute trip to atlantic city! we took a 3-hour bus that nearly killed us - we had to change 3 buses and we ended up almost missing one of them. it was pretty quiet at AC coz it was a weekday, but we managed to get a room at one of the casino hotels at a steal. :) i lost USD30 gambling..booo. oh, we did a LOT of shopping at AC coz there were so many outlets! woohoo!

another day in suburban point pleasant beach, new jersey. temperature today started out with a nice high of 66degF but it went to a 59degF. I'm not sure of the mathematical conversion but 59degF felt like a 15degC. it was nice and sunny and not particularly windy this morning and i actually went about in jeans and a t-shirt! the day was slow and boring so i didn't get a lot of customers. i didn't know i could stay until closing so i punched out at 5pm. kelvin wanted me to stay but i'd already told them i was going home so yes, here i am.
i was happily checking my mail when i got back and the silly fire alarm went off! perhaps it was because of the smoke detector above the stove (michelle and nicholas were cooking).it rang through out the house so i went out and pulled a lever hoping to shut it off but it didn't work (i found out later it sounds the alarm if the smoke detector doesn't go off). within minutes, the police and the fire department were over at our place! it's the first time the people here are actually quick at doing something (the toilet got stuck on monday and the plumber is STILL not here). apparently they're well acquainted with this house because every year they've got foreigners staying here and there are the usual problems.
and just a few days ago, we had 2 accidents on the same day. a lady died of a heart attack on the boardwalk in the afternoon and at night, we saw the police, fire department, underwater rescue etc plus helicoptors and boats out at sea. some guy was swimming and got swept out i think. i never knew a quiet town like this could be so exciting.
we hit new york city yesterday. i love city life! we were at liberty island, the empire state building and the world trade centre site. we did a little bit of shopping but i still wanna go back to 5th avenue and the stretch of 34th street leading up to the empire state building. there's so much to see and buy there! we went to coldstone creamery and the giant mcdonald's at times square too. i really like new york. :)
